5/28/2023 0 Comments The Nowhere Girls by Amy Reed![]() So far, some school libraries have opted to remove some of the challenged books during an informal review, but many remain on shelves.Īs of Wednesday morning, Moms for Liberty had not made a request for a formal district-wide review under the policy adopted Tuesday. District officials have warned it may take a year or more to complete such a process. The School Board voted Tuesday night on a policy that will allow the district to review challenged books on a district-wide level instead of forming committees at each school.

Another significant date, 1944, was when Charles de Gaulle boldly faced snipers to walk 190 feet to the cathedral’s front pew to commemorate the ousting of the Nazis from Paris. These include 1163, when work first began on constructing a Gothic church 1831, when Victor Hugo’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame was published, helping to immortalize the structure and 1844, when Viollet-Le-Duc began his controversial restoration of the crumbling building. ![]() In this concise and informative work, written to raise money for the restoration of Notre Dame after its recent fire, Follett ( Eye of the Needle) focuses on six key dates in the cathedral’s history. ![]() 5/28/2023 0 Comments The jock by tal bauer read online![]() ![]() I loved seeing a steady build-up of affection and attraction happen between Nick and Colton. I don’t even know what to say other than this is hands down my favorite book of the year. Nick Swanscott, Colton’s friend’s dad is there for support, helping Colton through his recovery and showing him that his future can be more than football. ![]() The decision proves to be disastrous when an injury potentially ruins any future he has with the NFL. And yet, here we are and I’m not even mad about it quite the opposite actually.Ĭolton Hall is a top draft pick for the NFL but decides to hold off and finish his senior year of college before joining the league. The way they met in The Jock was pretty crazy but not in an “oh my god I need a book about them” kind of way. We knew that Colton was Wes’s best friend and we knew that Nick was in the process of rebuilding his relationship with Justin and that he ultimately chose to divorce his wife in order to fully do that… but that’s about it. We weren’t given a ton of information about Nick and Colton in the first novel. I definitely didn’t think it would be about Wes’s best friend, Colton, and Justin’s dad, Nick. ![]() When I read the first book in this series, The Jock, I didn’t see any type of clue or build-up about a potential couple that Bauer could write about. Tal Bauer once again giving me surprise sequels. ![]() 5/27/2023 0 Comments Fallen crest high series![]() ![]() The writing was pretty addictive and I had a hard time putting most of these books down. There’s also a lot of violence and destruction and social wars.Īll that said, this series was highly entertaining. And a ridiculous amount of graphic sex scenes between Sam and Mason. There is a lot of cheating and sleeping around. I didn’t love how it painted teenage girls as desperate for popularity above anything else, even self-respect. It features teenagers that act like adults and adults that are crazy and negligent and abusive (and a few eventually that are amazing). There are some super crazy, ridiculous, eye-rolling, cringe-worthy, unbelievable drama that goes on in this series. ![]() She meets her future step-brothers, who are wildly popular rich football players, and after some initial bad blood, the three become very close. Sam’s mother is leaving her father and takes Samantha with her to her new boyfriend’s house. The series follows Samantha and her drama filled life with the Kade brothers, Mason and Logan. Because of that, I decided to finally give this series a try and got hooked. After a disappointing reading year in 2019, I found myself looking for books that I don’t normally read and for some reason got into SUPER ANGSTY type of books. The Fallen Crest High series has been on my radar for awhile because Deanna loves it, but it never really looked like my thing. ![]() It’s been a long time since I discovered a series that’s completely published and have been able to binge read the whole thing at once. ![]() 5/27/2023 0 Comments Susan orleans the library book![]() ![]() ![]() Only then does she learn of the fire and the bizarre story of the man suspected of arson, named Harry Peak. As he opens a book he inhales deeply and says that he could still smell the smoke. Orlean discovers the story of the fire while talking to one of the librarians from LA’s Central Library. The fire took place in April 1986 and Orlean, who lived in NY at the time – didn’t even know about it happening then, even though she admits that as a bibliophile she should’ve remembered a story like that. Orlean originally set out to write a book about “a year in the life of a library” until she discovered the story of the fire in the Central Library in Los Angeles. The writer Susan Orlean has a distinct knack for taking topics that don’t sound that interesting on their own but she manages to make them gripping and engaging and her latest The Library Book is no exception. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thank you Macmillan for the arc through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review! Fans of Ruta Sepetys in particular will enjoy this retelling.Ĥ.5/5 stars, this was a really interesting retelling! Ultimately, this is a very refreshing and unique novel that wonderfully explores politics, history, and the power of friendship. Their friendship is incredibly heartwarming and refreshing to read about. ![]() Though the two have very little in common – Anna is a wealthy tsarist while Evgenia is a Bolshevik peasant – they begin to develop a very deep and special bond. ![]() It was almost like having a sister again.”On her trip through Russia, Anna encounters Evgenia. “I made a face at her, wagging my tongue teasingly. There is no romance here, only friendship, and it is wonderful. The conflict between the Red and White armies, the class struggles, and the political atmosphere of the time are all perfectly incorporated. The depictions of revolutionary Russia are well-researched and informative. The historical setting is a clear highlight here. Devastated by the loss of her family, she must travel across a politically tumultuous Russia to reunite with the only remaining relatives she has left. When the Russian Royal Family is murdered by revolutionaries at the end of the Russian Revolution, Princess Anastasia miraculously manages to survive thanks to a magical pendent. “There’s no such thing.” Daughters of a Dead Empire is a delightful and entertaining Anastasia retelling that captures the heart of the original tale in a very innovative way. ![]() 5/27/2023 0 Comments Orwelli 1984![]() ![]() Its title meant, in Greek, either "good place" or "no place," and the book described an ideal society in order to criticize More's own society. In 1516, Sir Thomas More published a book called Utopia. ![]() In 1947 a lung infection contracted in Burma worsened, and in 1950 Orwell succumbed to tuberculosis at the age of 46. Both books were widely considered to be indictments of Communism under Joseph Stalin, but Orwell insisted that they were critiques of totalitarian ideas in general, and warned that the nightmarish conditions he depicted could take place anywhere. ![]() He is best known for his satires of totalitarian rule: Animal Farm (1945) and Nineteen Eighty-Four (1949). Through his autobiographical work about poverty in London ( Down and Out in Paris and London, 1933), his experiences in colonial Burma ( Burmese Days, 1934) and in the Spanish Civil War ( Homage to Catalonia, 1938), and the plight of unemployed coal miners in England ( The Road to Wigan Pier, 1937), Blair (who wrote under the name George Orwell) exposed and critiqued the human tendency to oppress others politically, economically, and physically. ![]() From 1922-27 he served in the Indian Imperial Police in Burma. My son had no trouble with this, but my girls begged for tape, so we added that into the supplies. ![]() I started by just giving them string and rubber bands and straws. You could do this with paper or plastic straws~ whichever you prefer. We made straw houses out of plastic straws. ![]() We used straws, popsicle sticks, wooden blocks, string, masking tape, and rubber bands.įor the first part of our Three Little Pigs STEM project, we made the straw houses. How to Do the Three Little Pigs STEM Projectįor our STEM project, we wanted to try building all three types of the Three Little Pigs’ houses. She played with her houses for a long time re-enacting the story with her little pigs and the wolf. I made a little set of Three Little Pigs printable figures that you can use to add a little extra fun and imagination into this activity. I’ve had this idea in my head for a long time and am excited to finally do it! We had such a blast with this engineering activity. Today I have a Three Little Pigs STEM project. My kids and I have loved doing different Fairy Tale STEM projects over the years.
